Bzzzt, Nathan!

We were driving home from my cousins wedding on Saturday. It's a long drive, around two hours, and the kids were noting the setting sun.

"Does this mean there won't be any stories when we get home?" asked Emma, who's really enjoying the Voyages of Doctor Dolittle that I've been reading.

"Yes," I said, "it does. Howabout we tell some stories now. I'll start with a story out of my head."

This met with broad approval. Soon we were doing story chains where each person gets to create a new direction for the story. The trick is, you never know when Mom will say, "Bzzt, Daddy." And the story goes in a new direction.

Nathan's just shy of four and at first didn't have any ideas, but as time went on he got more and more excited for his turn.

When we shifted and Wendell began telling real-life stories of his grandparents and great-grandparents, Nathan thought he could improve them. Periodically and at random intervals our little Natey would shout, "Bzzt, Nathan." This would set us off with peels of laughter.

"Bzzt, Nathan!"
