While Emma was home from church today with a fever we had this conversation.
E: Playing with Annika is hard. She's so much littler than I am. I mean, when she wants me to play something with her I just think it's stupid. And when I want her to play with me...well, my games are just much too sophisticated for her.

Very well put...though he's never phrased it quite like that, I think M feels the same way about playing with Li'l J. Sometimes it can be a real challenge to be the oldest--hang in there Emma! : )
Wow! that is so cute and funny. I can relate to these conversations, but I don't believe my 9 year old daughter has ever used the word sophisticated. I mean to tell you the truth just using that word makes me feel sophisticated! What a great word. I can tell you aren't afraid to use a wide range of vocabulary in your home-- I try to do the same. Sometimes when I am choosing my words I have to decide whether I am prepared to discuss the meaning or not and if I should choose a different word-- bad mom huh? Usually I use it as a learning experience it just depends on if my head is about to explode from over stimulation or not
Awww, Emma My Bemma... it IS hard to be the most sophisticated child in the family...
For some reading a little LESS sophisticated, check me out:

I too, am a blogger.
My 9 year old son just had that same conversation about his 6 year old brother with me the other day (minus the word sophistication!). Is there something in the 9 year old handbook about this?
