American Mormon

After the 2nd session of General Conference on Saturday, I saw a highlights show for American Mormon. It was hilarious.

Done in Jay Walking style, people off the street were asked what they knew about Mormons. Some of them instantly thought/said, "Oh, you must be Mormon." But other obviously thought, "You two are so normal, can't possibly be Mormons." Unlike other recent LDS films, (Singles Ward, for example is just one big inside joke. If you're not Mormon or don't have an in depth knowledge of Mormon culture, you won't get it. ) it would be enjoyed by Mormons and non-Mormons alike. The product info says that it has a 45 minute run time, although this review says more like 35.

I can't wait to see the whole thing!

Best laugh: The woman who thought Mormons were Amish. Here's her answer to, "what do you know about Mormons?"

"Well," she says, "they don't drive, use phones or computers."

"Do they use microphones?" asks the
LDS host Dayrn Tufts (Singles Ward) with an obviously leading question.

"I don't know," says the woman, "but I doubt it. I think they're too busy churning their butter."

I also appreciated that this LDS film making duo would set the record straight.

"They practice polygamy," someone might say.

"Actually, that's a misconception," Dayrn would inform.
(Can't you just hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir bursting out with the "Hallelulia Chorus?")

If you're LDS; you'll love it! If you've ever wondered about Mormons, this is an amusing way to find out!
